Not for most of it. One walkthrough with you at the start helps; after that, everything can run over phone and email.
How long does the design process take?
Most designs take one to three weeks, depending on the size of the yard and how many revisions you want.

The design side gets revision rounds until it's right. If we build it, the work is backed by the same 24-hour make-it-right promise as every job we do.
What happens if I want changes after my design is complete?
Two revision rounds are included — the design isn't done until you'd build it.
How do payments work for the design?
You approve a written estimate before design work starts, and payment is split into phases as the project moves.
Can you handle the entire project, including installation?
